The youngest of eight children, William Penn Adair Rogers was born on November 4, 1879 at Rogers Ranch in Oologah, Indian Territory (what is now Oklahoma). Hoagy Carmichael was born in Bloomington, Indiana, November 22, 1899, the son of Howard Clyde and Lida Mary (Robinson) Carmichael. He earned a LLB from Indiana University in 1926, and married Ruth Mary Meinardi on March 14, 1936.
